Hacksaw Ridge Response Writing

Hacksaw Ridge is a true movie based on Desmond Doss a world war 2 medic and a conscientious objector who saved 75 lives behind enemy lines without even carrying a gun. It came out in November 2016 and is directed by Mel Gibson, it is rated R15.

It is an action packed movie with lots of graphic detail and an amazing story line.

The movie is special because it is a true story where a conscientious objector is a hero. Conscientious objectors were named cowards and were disliked. Desmond Doss became the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor and the only conscientious objector to receive it in WW2

I like this movie because it has lots of action and interesting scenes and you don’t get bored. During the movie there is lots of explosions and gunfire and interesting parts when you are nervous like when he was in the tunnel and the Japanese were around every corner.

Overall I loved the movie since it is really graphic unique, is action packed and has a great story line.

I recommend this movie to anyone who likes action movies or war movies and is mature enough to see bloody graphic scenes.

For my creative response I made a small video. It is a small reenacted scene of the movie where Desmond doss drags a wounded soldier behind cover and gives him morphine in the middle of a battle. I chose to do this because I thought it would be fun to do. Here is the video.

Walls of China is a painting made by Russell Drysdale in 1945. It involves a barrenness Australian outback landscape with a dead tree as the focus and dark colours.

It is a very gloomy piece of art but the colours contrast and the painting technique used makes it looked sort of smudged and mixed.

I like how the colours are dark and gloomy but they also contrast and really stand out.  The colours are red,  brown, yellow, white and black.

I like how the painting technique looks smudged on half of the painting but the other half  is neat lines with lots of detail. The ground and sky is smudged and blended but the dead tree has lots of detail.

I like this art since it is dark and gloomy but the colours contrast. The paint in some parts is mixed and  smudged which I like and in other parts it has got lots of detail. I recommend this for anyone who likes dark colours.

Dance styles

This term we have been learning how people use The arts to communicate. We have investigated the characteristics of different dance styles. We experimented with each dance style ourselves, practised our note taking skills and created our own dance sequences.

My Weekend

I didn't really have a weekend but I had a holiday because my family and I went to wellington for my brothers 21st birthday, we went to Picton and got to the ferry on Tuesday, we then got into wellington and went into our hotel. Some of the things we did in the holidays were: watch guardians of the galaxy 2 and fast and furious 8, went ten pin bowling twice, went to the weta work shop tour and saw how the movies were made and lots of models and stuff, we went on a thunder birds tour as well and saw all the models and buildings which was really cool. My brother also showed us around the police station and showed us the cells and let us put on riot helmets. We came back on the ferry on Friday then stayed a night in Picton and drove back on Saturday.

Home links: Response writing, A dog's purpose

A dog's purpose is a movie based off a book written by W. Bruce Cameron. The movie is about a dog which dies and gets reincarnated as many dogs and lives many different lives. Through the course of the movie the dogs main question is what is the purpose of life?

It is movie with many funny and sad parts and a really meaningful story line.

I liked the movie because it was funny in many parts of it but you also got sad so it was like a roller coaster of emotions. Although it is sad that dogs die there is lots of jokes so you don’t get too sad.

I like this movie because it makes you think a lot about many things like what is the purpose of life? And is there a Life after death?

Overall I really liked this movie since it has a great story line, lots of dogs and a roller coaster ride of emotions.

I recommend this movie to anyone over the age of 8.

Narrative Blowing up the world

For most of the term we have been learning about narratives. A narrative is a story with an introduction, problem, event and conclusion. There can be as many events as you want. I found It good that we get to choose what we write about. Next time I will probably have a more realistic story line because this one isn't realistic at all. Here is My story with my friend Hamish reading it.

Reflection: Elgregoe

JPEG Image

Today Elgregoe come to our Lake Brunner School to teach us about bulling. Elgregoe is a ventriloquist and a magician.

My favourite part was when he floated and when his birds appeared, he had a lot of really cool birds. He had some anti-bulling sayings, some of them were : Hands are for helping, not for hurting, Don't repeat everything you hear , repeat the things that are friendly and helpful, Traffic light- stop, think, go. It was really entertaining because of the illusions and the birds, I want to learn how to do some illusions.
